Portfolio 1: Who’s Your Momma?

I think of Mary as being this holy and pure lady born with no sin. As a class when we looked at the statue of Mary I noticed that she was wearing rosery beads around her neck and her hands were in a praying position which to me symbolizes that she is a holy person and very prayful. Mary's head is tilted downwards which to me means that she is a shy, quite, and personal person. Her feet are slanted which in a way could mean that she is standing on a cloud or that she is ascenting. I see her as a small ,petite, american white skinned women. Mary is the women that the Lord desided to give a child to that will be the savior of the jews and will heal and forgive sins. She was devoted to the Lord and trusted his word and what the powerful told her that she was going to bare this savior. The Lord was aware of her situation and saw that she was devoted to him and serving as a servant of the Lord. In her society if women cheated on their husbands they could be killed and were considered unclean and sluts. Her community would have thought that she was a slut and was sleeping around on Joseph. I think God chose a women like Mary because he could see that she was a strong women in a society where women were considered property more than being a regular human. I think God chose Mary because of the kind of person she was. Forexample: she was willing to bare a son that was coming from the Lord and he was going to be the savior and yet she agreeded because she was devoted in the Lord and trusted him. She was thoughtful and and knew that best way to handle the situation.
